The nominees
Aleks Dimitrova
With over a decade of experience in the recruitment sector, I oversee the Finance function at Eligo Recruitment. My job is very diverse and dynamic, which makes every day a new adventure.
Some of my main objectives are strategic financial planning, fiscal efficiency, optimised resource allocation and compliance with regulatory standards. Being part of the Senior Management of the business, I also work alongside the MD and Sales Directors, in order to increase "at desk level" capability by producing valuable commercial finance and industry insights that empower recruitment consultants at all levels to improve their client base, BD strategy and NFI.
Innovation, automation and technology adoption is the most exciting part of my job. I love finding new ways to make things more efficient, scalable and "future proof". This is why I stay up to date with all technology products and recruitment tools on the market.
I am a passionate advocate of the staffing industry. I believe in the huge impact it makes to the global economy, as well as the vast opportunities it offers individuals to develop their careers and unlock their potential. I feel very proud to be a part of such a dynamic, stimulating and ever-evolving industry. I also understand how much strategic operational efficiency, innovation and market savviness is required across recruitment businesses in order to survive and strive, especially in the current economic climate. I think APSCo has such a vital role in providing valuable market insight, raising awareness of the important industry matters, and bringing us all together as a sector, so I would be honoured to have the chance to contribute to such a wonderful organisation.
Amy Gudgeon
I have worked in recruitment since 2009, commencing my career in the social work sector and then founding an education department in 2016. In 2022, I was elected as an APSCo Representative Committee member and I am looking to continue my time on the board for a further two years. With my high energy I would like to contribute further to make a real impact to the firms APSCo represents.
During my tenure with APSCo, I championed the voice of public sector recruitment, the progression of the compliance standards and the growth of committee members. My commitment to the standards and practices of safer recruitment continues, with a vision of creating a public sector recruitment forum across all sectors. As an avid champion of SMEs with a keen interest of how technology will shape the future of the industry, my focus is always people, where I strongly encourage best practice and promote personal and professional development for both internal staff and candidates. My commitment to best practice extends to those across education, social work, and healthcare, representing 3D Recruit at sector meetings, as well as being an active committee member of APSCo Compliance+.
Ashley Salmon
I have worked in recruitment since 2012, more specifically Education recruitment since 2020, which has enabled me to build a very strong understanding of various stakeholder requirements of recruitment and the Education sector.
Barnaby Parker
I am a recruitment leader and entrepreneur. Having previously set up and successfully floated a niche recruitment business on the London Stock Exchange in 2007, I went on to launch Venquis with the vision of creating a pan-European staffing solutions business. Venquis now operates with clients across Northern Europe delivering projects in technology, data and automation from its delivery centre in Leicester. I am extremely well connected and have a confident, approachable leadership style.
Charlie Green
APSCo has been integral to our success at tml Partners - from embedding codes of conduct and latest policy guidance, shaping our commitments to EDI via Embrace, to turbo-charging our international expansion plans across Europe and US.
I am the MD at tml and hold 17 years of experience spanning recruitment and advisory roles, having previously been Head of BD at Grant Thornton and a Divisional Leader at EMR. I lead the operations for 25 FTEs, our strategies for EDI & ESG, and secured B Corp status. Our industry is in a unique position to drive positive change across the markets we serve, and place diversity at the forefront of business and hiring priorities. These commitments have helped us drive enhanced client engagement, attract the best talent, and delivered profitable growth.
I would be delighted to share my experiences and learn from our Committee peers, and together we can drive best practice for APSCo members and our industry as a whole.
Che Hookings
I would relish a second term on the Representative Committee. Offering and tempering views with such a prestigious peer group has been a tremendous experience. Seeing active change in the sector as a result, in part, of my efforts boosts confidence and encourages a deep affinity with the team.
I have experience in a few areas that I believe beneficial; the majority of our trade is across broad international territories, we are technology specific and our business model is one of empowerment where we have embraced fully remote working. I offer this knowledge in an enthusiastic, happy to be challenged/wrong personality style which I believe encourages others to contribute and feel engaged.
The challenges intensify, with geopolitical unrest, unbalanced fiscal and monetary priorities and the impact of AI. Harnessing wide ranging views and influencers from within the recruitment sector and bringing them to focus on these issues is more important than ever. My work is not yet done!
Christopher Eldridge
During my now, 29 years, working in the Staffing sector I have been fortunate enough to develop a broad and rich pool of knowledge, through mainly being thrown in the ‘deep end’.
I began my career as a Resourcer at Harvey Nash and through my time there, as well as the following 15 years in leadership roles at Spring and PSD I broadened my product, geographical and functional knowledge leading and integrating several acquisitions alongside driving profitable organic growth. I have recently left InterQuest Group where I was the CEO for 8 years, establishing a vibrant, fun and growing business, that along with my team, we successfully delisted from AIM into private ownership and recently exited in a trade sale. During this time I have developed a deep knowledge of the UK, North American, European and Asian staffing markets and set up and led permanent, contract, MSP, RPO, Hire-Train-Deploy and consulting businesses. I have recently joined Robert Walters to lead the UKI and North American business.
I have been lucky enough to have been very happily married for 20 years and have two, fast growing up, children that absorb the majority of my free time when not working.
Dan Taylor
I have been the Managing Director of Morgan Hunt since January 2017. Over that period, I have overseen a full-scale change programme that has led to a more defined offering to the business's long-standing clients, a full change of brand, a new CRM and several adoptions of new and innovative tech and the opening of a new business in Scotland. All this has contributed to returning this long-standing business to profit.
In 2023, Morgan Hunt was awarded the NORA award for best large recruitment business for Morgan Hunt’s online presence. The Financial Times listed Morgan Hunt as one of the top 30 British Recruitment Companies and The Recruiter Magazine will feature Morgan Hunt in their Fast 100 for 2023.
I have worked within staffing and recruitment for 28 years. I am a major supporter of APSCo, attending many events throughout the year. I am a firm advocate for greater professionalism within the recruitment industry.
Daniel Malkoun
With 25 years' experience in recruitment I have worked blue-collar and professional services verticals. This has given me a broad-based understanding of issues related to all levels of contractor and permanent recruitment APSCo's members are facing. As an MD and billing consultant, I retain a hands-on appreciation of the development of technical, legal and operational challenges within the recruitment industry and feel I am suitably capable of representing a diverse membership base. I have worked as an external advisor to what was formerly BIS advising on the implementation of intended legal updates affecting the recruitment sector.
I am a committed advocate of the need for a representative body such as APSCo to continue to bring pressure industry issues to the fore of decision-makers, and I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this in greater depth.
Fiona Wilson
I founded FJWilson Talent (www.fjwilson.com) in 2009 – a boutique agency whose sector focus is membership organisations, awarding bodies and learning providers. The agency works on permanent, fixed-term contract, interim and contractor roles – variously, senior, mid-level and specialist. I and my fellow board director also provide consultancy and executive coaching.
Previously, I was Operations Director for Adecco’s professional staffing brand Jonathan Wren (Banking and Finance) and of the London 2012 (LOCOG) contract. Early-career experience included general and specialist education staffing for Kelly Services. An experienced charity trustee, since 2010 I have been part of six different Pilotlight teams (https://www.pilotlight.org.uk/), helping CEOs of charities and social enterprises build capacity and increase impact.
I’m motivated to represent the small recruitment firm, connect with other leaders, continue to learn and share about the industry, and play a part in shaping our professional body. I’m able to debate robustly and positively and build rapport across a group. Other strengths include working with the chair to drive adherence to the meeting agenda and contributing research-informed points to back up thought processes in debates. As a proactive and reliable contributor, I’d prepare, be thoughtful, actively participate, and help ensure all group members have time to contribute.
Gavin Beart
Having been in recruitment since 2001 and a committee member of APSCo in the Education sector, I feel I can add value to this committee.
As the MD of Reed Education, I sit on the Board SLT in Reed, and as such have experience and insight from a £1b turnover agency. I am a specialist in the Education sector but have exposure to all vertical markets in UK Plc. I am deeply involved in compliance and UK vetting standards, involved in strategic planning for Reed and the operational running of a National agency in the Education sector. My skillsets include strategy planning, data analysis, collaboration and decision making.
Ian Knowlson
With almost 40 years in the professional recruitment industry, I have a wealth of knowledge and experience initially working in senior positions (including Board Director) with APSCo members, Computer People, QA-Myriad, and Hays PLC (IT, Telecoms and Corporate Sales). Over the last 14 years, I have operated as a Growth Coach/L&D Trainer/NED, supporting professional recruitment businesses across the UK, Europe, Australia, and US, working annually with 60-80 recruitment business leaders.
Recently Onalytica named me in their Top 10 Global Influencers on the Future-of-Work/Talent-Recruitment and I regularly speak at conferences on future technology impacts on the employment sector. With disruptive times ahead I’m passionate about advancing and shaping our industry to embrace the societal and technological challenges that we face whilst raising the ethical standards which bind us.
Married with four children and a grandson, I’m a keen gardener, golfer and a member of Royal Birkdale Golf Club. I live in Cheshire where I’m active in my community. I would relish the opportunity to channel my energy, knowledge, and experience into being a Representative Committee member.
James Hanbury
I have been with SThree for over 20 years after starting as a trainee in Birmingham in 1999. I am responsible for the UK’s largest profit centre – London. The London profit centre is home to 3 brands (Huxley, Real Staffing, and Computer Futures) covering IT, Banking, Life Sciences, Public Sector, and Education markets.
I am also a key member of the UK SLT leading on several key strategic projects. I have a strong record of creating and scaling high-performing sales teams by developing strong leadership layers below me and have been responsible for creating more sales directors than anyone else at SThree.
Two of my greatest accomplishments while being at SThree are winning Director of the Year twice, most recently in 2021.
Jared Massey
I have well over 15 years of experience in senior leadership roles in recruitment as well as being in recruitment overall for over 20 years. This is a mixture of mainly RPO and pure in-house, and purely in Operations and Delivery of in-house talent solutions and strategy.
Sectors I have worked in are varied but primarily in Manufacturing, FMCG, Financial Services and Healthcare. I directly manage a team of 7 Recruitment Leaders or Heads of Recruitment and then an overall team of over 60.
I would like to think due to the amount of experience I have I can bring a broad range of knowledge into the group but I am especially focused on technology enablement, global enablement (my teams are based mainly across the UK and Europe but have indirect teams globally), building successful teams, continuous improvement, nurturing and teaching talent as well as being humble in how things can always improve.
I really like what APSCo stands for and would love to get involved.
Jen Howard
Working in the recruitment industry for over 15 years, I really enjoy supporting our teams, clients and candidates in delivering compliant, ethical services.
I started my career in the Civil Service and have a particular interest in the process of developing law and the practical application of risk mitigation. Further to the general compliance area I'm interested in business process optimisation, particularly when thinking about developing new product lines or service offerings.
I work for Evolution, a global tech recruiter and tech project delivery partner, and therefore have visibility across multiple sectors and markets. and would be keen to support APSCo in delivering a great standard of service to members.
John Bissell
I am a company secretary qualified by examination and previously a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators. I was a founding director of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation in 1999 and served as a board director of that trade body until my resignation in 2007. I have been a member of APSCo for a number of years and am now an advisor to the membership under the Advisorlink scheme.
I was a director and Group Secretary of Nestor Healthcare plc between 1977 and 1991, when I left to found LBA, a specialist consultancy advising recruitment business owners on exit route planning, business sales, buy and build programmes, business development, MBO’s and mergers. LBA has valued over 3,500 recruitment businesses and acted on the sale or purchase of around 350 recruitment businesses. I am recognised as a leading expert in the valuation of recruitment businesses worldwide and am invited to act as an expert witness in legal cases and speak at industry seminars.
In my role as a consultant, I have analysed thousands of recruitment businesses in detail. This has given me a unique insight into the workings of the industry both in the UK and globally. I believe that this knowledge of the industry together with my large network of contacts worldwide, will enable me to make a valuable contribution to the work of APSCo. Furthermore, my work as an advisor to the industry will enable me to bring a different perspective to the work of the Representative Committee.
Jon Cox
I've been a die-hard APSCo fan for 20 years, home and away games, scarf and all. The work the APSCo team do to raise standards and advocate for our industry is phenomenal - professional, sharp, ethical and fun.
I bring my experience as Chair of the SME Forum and several RepComms, including Vice Chair 2018-2020. I honed my expertise in Cont & Perm IT & Engineering recruitment at PSD, Start, Parity, Longbridge and CCL, and now run contracts, mobilisation and international payroll compliance at Pangea and Parallel in Fulham.
I missed a few APSCo games during the pandemic, and would relish your vote to sit on the Representative Committee again, for all the opportunities and challenges we face – from budgets to talent to AI and regulation. I believe my experience and dedication can contribute significantly to shaping the future of our industry. Thank you for your consideration.
Jon Tyler
I have worked in both contractor and permanent IT recruitment, for over 35 years, initially in large organisations, rising to senior roles and, for the last 18 years, as a joint founder of a successful SME. Despite that, I still find recruitment both exhilarating and frustrating! So, I believe I have the first-hand experience to understand the context of what pressures and challenges a recruitment SME has to cope with, as well as understanding the complexities of a large recruitment organisation.
During the Covid period I was immensely impressed by the way APSCo led the way for the industry, talking with Government and supporting the members, pivoting online, and moving at pace. It truly showed APSCo’s value. As an ex-Army officer, I have a very strong belief in taking an ethical stance in all matters and I want to help continue to promote good pragmatic recruitment practices and, working together, further raising the professionalism of our industry and improving its external profile. Additionally, having had some involvement lobbying HMRC to (marginally) improve their original “Off Payroll Working” implementation plan, I would like to use this position to continue to influence a more realistic approach to the position of professional contractors and the value of a flexible workforce for our economy.
Laura Moody
I started out in recruitment at Ionic 10 years ago as a trainee, quickly progressing through the ranks to Managing Consultant. In 2020, we (myself and my business partner – Ian Hetherington) carried out an MBO and took ownership of the company. It’s been a struggle to stabilise after Covid-19 and the other challenges the business had from historic ownership, but we feel we’ve now accomplished this as our first aim.
We have used APSCo training several times over the last 3 years, and have attended many webinars and members events. We have relied on their support & guidance in this time and I would now welcome the opportunity to be able to learn from other business owners, support APSCo’s growth and also develop Ionic along the way.
Lee Knowles
Since incorporating Adepto Technical Recruitment in 2015 I have always worked very closely with APSCo - whether that be through utilisation of their model TOBs, policies & procedures, the legal helpdesk, or indeed more recently co-chairing the North West Business Forum, which I have really enjoyed.
Having joined the recruitment industry in 1997, I have gained broad experience - working up to director level in an international corporate, to running and growing Adepto where my mantra has always been 'do the right things, and do them well'.
I believe strongly in recruitment as a credible and rewarding career choice; in training and compliance; in the relationship between RPO/MSPs and recruitment companies - and how these can cooperate more effectively for better client outcomes. I am passionate about my home, the North West, and am keen to be a voice for recruitment in the region.
I value the relationship that I have with APSCo and feel that I have sufficient depth of experience to hold views and ideas in most areas, in order to support the RepComm in its objectives.
Lisa McLean
I have over three decades of experience and expertise within the recruitment sector, aligned with APSCo's objectives, which often include matters related to professional recruitment and staffing.
I have a genuine interest in contributing to the betterment of the industry that APSCo represents. Including but not exhaustive of advocating for best practices, staying abreast of industry developments, and actively participating in discussions and initiatives aimed at improving standards and outcomes for both employers and job seekers and the recruitment sector as a whole.
As most in the recruitment sector would say, I possess strong communication and collaboration skills, and as committee work often involves working with diverse stakeholders to achieve common goals. Being able to effectively articulate ideas, listen to others' perspectives, and negotiate consensus are important qualities for a representative.
Lucy Morgan
I am CEO of Pod, have served one term on the APSCo RepComm and am keen to serve again.
Pod was started 11 years ago to change the perception of the recruitment industry. That still rings true today; we do recruitment in the right way, driven by values and with people at the heart of everything we do, with a huge focus on DE&I. Having won 7 industry awards, I believe we are some way towards achieving what we set out to do.
As an openly gay, non-binary leader, I am a huge advocator for DE&I in recruitment, and I know we have work to do to make our sector more inclusive and a place where those from underrepresented backgrounds can thrive. I’ve used my position on the RepComm to highlight and action change, for example by becoming Chair of the Embrace Committee and setting up Campaign – an LGBQT+ networking group for the recruitment industry. I believe that someone like me should be part of the RepComm, and I would love the opportunity to continue to use my platform to influence change.
Mark Baker
I've just completed an initial 2-year term on the Representative Committee and have found the experience really interesting, extremely insightful and very rewarding in terms of contributing to the group and seeing first-hand how APSCo is run for the membership. I'm hugely passionate about the recruitment industry and want to continue to showcase both this and my commitment to its ethical and professional development. I would also like to use my experience as the Founder/Director of a Global Staffing business that has grown organically over the past 22 years to demonstrate my understanding of both the current challenges and opportunities facing the sector.
Finally, I feel that continuing with another term as a Representative Committee member will enable me to continue to drive the values of collaboration, inclusivity and diversity throughout the sector.
Mark Smith
I am a very new business and a new member to APSCo but have had a fantastic experience already. I am previously a teacher and a member of SLT for a dual SEN-PRU multi-site school in Rochdale. I have also been a governor of several schools and am well versed in the requirements for such a position.
Michelle Palmer
I’m Michelle Palmer, Diverse Founder & CEO of the DifferenceEngine. This is my 2nd career (the first was along time ago in Corporate IT).
TheDifferenceEngine is an IT Staffing SME serving clients globally. A PhD scientist, I hail from a non-academic working-class background. I am very aware of the privilege I’ve earned and am a passionate advocate of social mobility, which, alongside our IT heritage and expertise, is a key focus for TheDifferenceEngine. In any spare time I continue to mentor academics, pro bono, at Imperial College London on entrepreneurship.
I’ve enjoyed 2 (quick!) years on the RepComm, dissecting and debating the challenges and opportunities the constant changes our industry generates.
It’s been an exceptional experience to have a seat at the table, surrounded by high-performing business leaders, sharing perspectives for business like ours. Ann Swain and the impressive APSCo leadership team are a positive force – intelligent, well-informed, assertive ambassadors for our industry on an increasingly global stage. It would be great to build on the first 2 years with the insights & confidence gained.
Natasha Makhijani
I am the Founder and CEO of Oliver Sanderson Group PLC, an award-winning executive search firm recognised for path-breaking contributions to DE&I and digital recruitment innovation by the House of Lords, Global Recruiter, APSCo, the Recruiter Awards, and the 2022 Platinum Jubilee Album for a transformational contribution to UK business.
I am passionate about tackling DE&I challenges with clients. Having built a strong track record of high-profile appointments of candidates from minority backgrounds across a wide range of industries, companies are approaching us for help finding top-level candidates who can help them improve representation.
I would like to be part of this committee because I strongly believe in the power of collaboration and advocacy for positive change. I bring a combination of skills, experiences, and a passion for recruitment, innovation and DE&I. To me, fostering inclusivity & ensuring diverse viewpoints are heard is essential to achieving the group's objectives.
Paul Hutchinson
Having worked in the recruitment industry for over 20 years, in both large companies and small privately-owned companies, I believe I can bring valuable experience to this committee.
My career in recruitment has focused on the IT sector, working predominantly with public sector clients. My experience covers many roles and functions that APSCo’s members operate in, including: Training and Development, Resourcing, Account Management, Business Development, Sales Strategy, P&L Management, Budgeting and Forecasting.
During my career I have built sales desks multiple times, mentored individuals, manged teams, directed sales teams across multiple locations and built and manged recruitment sales revenues of over £30 million per annum.
I feel passionately about the recruitment sector, raising its profile, protecting its integrity and looking to the future so that we can welcome more people into the industry. The UK staffing sector is facing a period of change, fresh challenges and with this comes opportunity for APSCo and its members. There continues to be challenges in accessing sufficient talent (recruiters), AI will only become more prominent, IR35 and GDPR continues to challenge the sector and we are likely to have a change in Government.
I believe that APSCO can lead the way to support and inform its members and I would welcome the opportunity to be part of that.
Sean Gallagher
As an IT recruiter for the last 35 years, I have a broad and deep insight and understanding of both the UK and international recruitment marketplaces. Having specialised in the IT market and having worked for some of the smallest and largest industry players, I have experienced pretty much the full spectrum of the industry. For the last 25 years I have been running my own group of agencies (+ outsourced professional software development, consultancy, and delivery) covering all IT technical specialist areas and a number of trading brands with offices in London and Cape Town. I champion professionalism in our industry and strive to uphold that professionalism in all of our stakeholder dealings and for competitors to achieve the same.
For the maximum term of 9 years I served on the board of the REC, with the last 6 as Chair of Finance on the main board. This time allowed me some quality industry 'diversification' working with directors and leaders from pretty much all sectors of our £27billion.
Sean Moran
With a decade of experience optimising recruitment strategy for life sciences companies, I believe my expertise could provide valuable insights if selected for the Representative Committee. My passion lies in collaborating closely with clients to fully understand their unique talent needs. I then leverage my knowledge of the latest innovations in recruitment, like advanced AI techniques, to build custom solutions aimed at supporting their strategic goals. Compliance and ethics are central to my approach, as I aim to elevate recruitment's reputation through best practices.
I actively contribute to industry conversations by providing thought leadership on APSCo’s Public Policy Group & APSCo’s Legal Forum and speaking at industry events. On the Committee, I would draw on this experience to take a strategic perspective on how we can continue driving innovation. My enthusiasm for empowering organisations through talent access motivates me to explore how I could further this mission through the role. I am committed to upholding the highest ethical standards and believe my specialised expertise in optimising recruitment strategy could enable me to make a beneficial contribution to the group.
Stephen Shorter
I am CEO of Cobalt, an international, multi-brand group specialising in the Built Environment with 11 offices across Europe and North America. I am also co-chair of APSCo’s International Forum.
I have been Cobalt’s CEO for the past two years - prior to this I was CFO for 8 years. Before entering the recruitment industry (something which I never envisaged!), I trained as a chartered accountant with Deloitte, and held a number of commercial finance and general management positions in industry.
My motivation to join RepComm stems from seeing the benefits both personally and for Cobalt as APSCo members over several years. Having seen others I know well serve on RepComm, I am eager to contribute and give back to APSCo and its membership. I think the next few years are going to present a huge challenge for the recruitment industry but also huge opportunities, and I think that a strong RepComm with a range of experiences and perspectives is vital to help members make the most of the opportunities that will present themselves, and I am enthusiastic about having the chance to use my experience to help shape the future of APSCo.
Tara Ricks
I now possess over 25 years (yikes!) experience in the recruitment sector, most recently encompassing NED & Advisory services; M&A; Strategy; People & Culture; Leadership & Coaching. Having previously been Chair at APSCo in 2011 - and remained closely involved since then, as either a recruitment business owner, friend and now part of AdvisorLink - I am acutely aware of the significant value of a robust and professional body which effectively - and successfully - represents both the interests of recruitment organisations and delivers a guarantee of excellence to its members.
I would be delighted, and would relish the opportunity, to use my extensive experience of our sector to support APSCo in shaping strategy and business planning, to deliver the best offering to members.
William Hacking
As MD for a mid-size FinTech recruitment firm, I have a real passion for how recruitment can evolve culturally but also advance with the ever-changing world of tech. Having started as an enthusiastic recruiter, I’ve worked through amazing times and also extremely challenging times, to culminate in where I am today. I can confidently say that I understand the profession inside and out, with the battle scars to prove it.
The recruitment industry is constantly evolving, shaped by tech advancements and market dynamics. I navigate these changes by staying agile, embracing innovation, and fostering a learning culture within my team, our success lies in our ability to adapt and evolve. As a representative for APSCo, I plan to contribute by supporting other firms on their journeys, sharing insights and strategies can help us all.

Yvette Cleland
My career started with eight transformative years in the pharmaceutical industry before I moved across to life sciences staffing 24 years ago. In 2012, I joined Clinical Professionals to scale the business for acquisition, stimulate robust growth, and diversify its brand portfolio. After a successful acquisition by Cpl Resources PLC, I was honoured to be recognised for two years by Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) as one of the top 50 most powerful women in staffing globally.
I see my career as a diverse role primarily focused on the people, company, and industry I serve from both a life science and staffing perspective. I have been honoured to serve APSCo on the Representative Committee, where I value the opportunity to give back to an industry I am passionate about.
