Assistant Director – People Support Services, NHS North Cumbria Integrated Care Trust
Amanda joined North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust (NCUH) in February 2016.
Amanda started her career in the private sector including a spell managing recruitment agencies. After moving into head-hunting (including board level appointments), Amanda was asked to join a newly formed ‘trouble-shooting’ team at Her Majesty’s Treasury (HMT) and The Office of Government & Commerce (OGC). Her tenure at HMT included working through the financial crisis and senior resourcing roles in the Major Project Directorate, Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit and the establishment of the Asset Protection Agency.
From HMT she moved to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and led on a number of high profile resourcing projects culminating in working with Professor Sir Mike Richards and Professor Steve Fields CBE on the establishment of a Bank of 6,500 Specialist Advisors (SPAs) to work as independent experts on inspections. This work-stream had originally been identified as a project to be outsourced, however the success of Amanda and her team delivering this work-stream at a fraction of the cost of outsourcing resulted in the Board voting to retain this function in house.
After CQC she joined the NHS in Cumbria and has led on a variety of workforce projects and is considered a specialist in resourcing and contingent labour. Her work on re-defining agency management has achieved national recognition and has saved the NHS £millions while improving safety and quality. The approach was described by NHSE as a ‘national exemplar’. As Assistant Director of People Services for NCIC her remit extends across all People Functions and she has been shortlisted for Deputy People Leader of The Year in the HPMA Awards 2024.
